HIQA annual report on care services delivers strong endorsement of nursing home care

Nursing Homes Ireland acknowledges publication today, 6th June, of the report Overview of HIQA’s regulation of social care and healthcare services in 2017. Tadhg Daly, NHI CEO states: “The report provides a strong endorsement of the excellent care being provided by nursing homes and their staff. It reports on the direct feedback provided by residents to HIQA during their inspections of nursing homes. Residents have informed of being well looked after by competent and caring staff. HIQA acknowledges within the report nursing home providers are committed to excellence and striving continuously improve the quality of their services. This is further underlined by the almost doubling of fully compliant nursing homes over the period of 12 months. As presented by the Authority, the increase is evidence of the hard work and commitment being undertaken by nursing homes to improve the lived experience for residents. The positive lived experiences of residents in nursing homes was also presented in the unique research undertaken by Ulster University published last September, The Lived Experience of Nursing Home Residents in the Context of the Nursing Home as their Home. Today’s report presents opportunity to recognise and praise great care being provided within our nursing homes and to acknowledge the excellent, dedicated staff who are adding immensely to the quality of life of nursing home residents.”
