Nursing Homes Ireland (NHI) Statement on Budget 2027

Nursing Homes Ireland (NHI) Statement on Budget 2027.
Additional Funding for the Fair Deal Scheme noted but still unrepresentative of the true cost of care.

Following the Department of Health’s Post Budget Press Conference, NHI acknowledges the marginal increase of €97m in additional funding announced for the Nursing Home Support (Fair Deal) Scheme for 2027.

Despite this funding increase, NHI remains concerned of the sufficiency of this Budget announcement, given the ongoing cost pressures on the cost of care facing our Members, and indeed the entire nursing home sector in Ireland. Additionally, we were disappointed to see no extension for the Nursing Home Resident Environment Enhancement (REE) Scheme announced today.

As always, NHI remain committed to continue working with Government to develop a long-term vision for nursing home care that honours the dignity of older people and supports the delivery of high-quality, person-centred, and choice-based care.
