A Taste of Home – Where every dish tells a story
This August, nursing homes across Ireland will come together to celebrate Nursing Homes Week 2025, taking place from Monday 18th to Sunday 24th August.
This year’s theme, “A Taste of Home”, invites residents, families, staff and local communities, to share the recipes and food memories that have shaped their lives.
From treasured family dishes to everyday favourites, A Taste of Home celebrates the deep connection between food, memory, and community.
Whether it’s a grandmother’s apple tart, a Sunday roast, or a simple slice of toast made with love, every dish tells a story. Homes will be marking the week with storytelling, shared meals, creative displays, and by celebrating the memories behind meaningful recipes.

The theme ‘A Taste of Home’ reminds us that food is far more than nourishment, it’s memory, love, and belonging. Behind every dish is a story worth celebrating.
When a resident shares a favourite recipe, they’re sharing part of their life. That’s what this year’s Nursing Homes Week is all about, recognising those stories and the people behind them.
People living in nursing homes across Ireland have led lives filled with strength, wisdom, and generosity. Their stories are powerful and deserve to be honoured and shared, not just during this week, but every day.
We also take this opportunity to acknowledge the incredible commitment of nursing home staff across the country, whose compassion and professionalism bring comfort and dignity to thousands every day.
