Care is at the heart of everything we do. We engage with residents, their families, our member nursing homes and the wider community to support the delivery of high quality person-centred care in private and voluntary nursing homes.
What does ‘care’ mean to us? Here we explore this question through the eyes of real residents and carers, celebrating the stories of care that happen every day in nursing homes around Ireland.
“Life started well today. It was the best day ever. I am just full of happiness.” Honor
New experiences are key to emotional wellbeing and fulfilment. In this case, with the help of Teresa, an old passion become a new experience for Honor.
“Being part of the community is very important for any nursing home. You are not living in your own home, but you are still very much part of your community.”
Community involvement is part of our ethos. Enabling residents to engage with the wider community opens their world to new activities and experiences.
“The reason I plan events like we had today is to see the look on her face, to see her smiling. To see her content, to see her fulfilled. To be part of that is really very special.”
What does care mean for Honor and Teresa? Honor’s relationship with Teresa is something that brings her joy. For Teresa, seeing Honor smile is the most rewarding part of her job.
Meet Honor and Teresa
One story of care is the story of Honor, a resident at Cramers Court Nursing Home, one of our member nursing homes. Teresa is the Activities Co-ordinator there, and she and Honor share a special bond. As Teresa gets to know Honor she’s intrigued by her life-long love of horses. We explore through Teresa and Honor’s perspective the wonderful things that happen when we ‘care together’.
