Prof. Amanda Phelan, Full Professor, School of Nursing, Psychotherapy & Community Health, Dublin City University.
Amanda Phelan commenced her academic career in 2002 as an Assistant Professor in Nursing at the School of Nursing, Midwifery & Health Systems, University College Dublin. She coordinated the graduate public health nursing programme, the MSc Nursing and the MSc Person Centred Care. From 2008-2014, she was Deputy Director of the National Centre for the Protection of Older People at UCD. In 2017, Amanda became an Associate Professor in University College Dublin. In 2020, Amanda commenced the Professor in Ageing and Community Nursing post at the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin and has just commenced (September 2024) a Full Professorship in General Nursing post in School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health, Dublin City University.
Paula O'Reilly, CEO, Irish Hospice Foundation
Paula has over 15 years of experience working in diverse Irish and international healthcare and charitable organisations. Her previous roles include working in occupational therapy and mental health services. She served as CEO of Cheeverstown House for three years before transitioning to Virtue – Integrated Elder Care, where she held positions as Chief Operations Officer and most recently, Group CEO. Paula holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy and a Master’s in Health Service Management, both from Trinity College Dublin.
Andy Heffernan, CEO, The Alzheimer Society of Ireland
Before joining The ASI, Andy was National Secretary of the Society of St Vincent De Paul, one of the largest voluntary charitable organisations in Ireland. Before this, he was Chief Executive of St John of God Community Services, an organisation providing services to those with learning disabilities and mental health issues across Ireland. He also served in the Defence Forces for 19 years serving both at home and abroad in the Middle East with the United Nations, Central Africa with Goal and the Balkans with the European Union.
Andy has a BSc from NUIG, an MSc from the University of Ulster and a certificate in Charity Law, Trusteeship and Governance from the Law Society of Ireland.
