Booster vaccination welcome & need now for timely rollout

Monday November 1, 2021

1st November 2021: Nursing Homes Ireland today welcomed the decision by the National Immunisation Advisory Committee to give approval to rollout of booster vaccine to frontline healthcare workers, including those in nursing homes. Tadhg Daly, NHI CEO states: “For weeks we’ve been engaged with the relevant Ministers and HSE on this important issue and we welcome the decision today by NIAC. The prevalence of Covid19 is increasing within our communities and this has a direct impact upon our nursing homes and healthcare settings. Thankfully the protection afforded to residents is much greater because of the vaccination and the booster have considerably strengthened their immunity against the virus. Extending it to frontline staff will bring added protection to those providing person-intensive care in our nursing homes and provide the staff with greater reassurance. We will be engaging with the HSE with view to rollout of the vaccine in as timely a manner as possible as we enter into the very challenging winter period.”

Tadhg Daly, NHI CEO, is available for further comment. Interviews will be facilitated by Michael McGlynn, NHI Communications & Research Executive, who can be contacted at 087 9082970.
