Nursing Homes Ireland Presents 2025 Pre-Budget Submission to Minister for Finance, Jack Chambers TD
Monday September 16, 2024Nursing Homes Ireland (NHI) was pleased to meet with Minister for Finance, Jack Chambers TD, last Thursday (September 12th) at Trinity Care Rathborne Nursing Home. NHI CEO Tadhg Daly, alongside Trinity Care CEO and NHI Director, Mike Tonery, presented the 2025 Pre-Budget Submission.
Tadhg Daly said, “We were pleased to present our pre-budget submission to Minister Chambers, where we outlined four key requirements for Budget 2025. These include a full Regulatory Impact Assessment on any state-sponsored cost increases, immediate action to prevent further nursing home closures through a stabilisation fund, and an increase of €265 million in Fair Deal funding to address rising care costs.”
He added, “We also need to recognise Healthcare Assistants as professionals through CORU and provide resources to ensure fair pay for care staff, comparable to HSE rates. Lastly, we are calling for equal access to primary care services and equipment for all older people, regardless of where they live.”
Minister Chambers met with residents and staff, gaining first-hand insights into the challenges faced by the sector. NHI’s Pre-Budget Submission emphasises the urgent need for increased Fair Deal funding to ensure the sustainability of nursing home care.
We thank Minister Chambers and the staff and residents of Rathborne Nursing Home for their hospitality.
